Brian Calderón Tabatabai is a West Covina City Council candidate who has failed to publicly disclose key facts about his past. From being accused of hitting a local student, to supporting failed policies that increase crime in our neighborhoods, Brian has a controversial background that he has actively hidden from voters.
This website is dedicated to revealing important facts about Brian’s record and providing the public critical information (with references) to set the record straight.
In a June 2017 deposition, Brian Calderón Tabatabai – under oath – disclosed that he was suspended and ultimately stopped coaching at El Monte High School because he violated the school’s zero tolerance policy.
Brian admitted he had been accused of hitting a player, using profanity, demonstrating favoritism, and mentioning a parent’s name in the classroom.
In a December 2020 interview with the UCLA Library Center for Oral History Research, Brian proudly stated that “we ran on defunding the police,” in regard to his city council campaign. As a Councilmember, he was the lone vote against the 2021-2022 budget, which included an amendment for the hiring of 10 police officers. Additionally, Brian was the lone dissenting vote in a vote of no confidence against failed Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon.
On November 9, 2023, Brian appeared before the Los Angeles Superior Court to change his name from “Brian Moini Tabatabai” to “Brian Moini Calderon Tabatabai.” At the time, Brian was gearing up for his State Assembly run in District 48, which features a 52% Latino voter base. A commonly recognizable Latino surname, “Calderón” is now the name Brian features on all his campaign advertisements.
